Participation terms
The Refugee walk 2022 is a 10, 20 or 40 kilometer sponsored walk in and around Antwerp, as well as. Each participant undertakes to comply strictly with the participation regulations. Together we ensure a smooth running of the Refugee walk and we monitor the safety and well-being of all participants. Solidarity among the participants and respect for the landscape are the foundation of the Refugee walk. By registering, each participant agrees to the rules below. So read them carefully before you sign up.
Participation

The Refugee walk welcomes participants of all ages. If you are under 18 at the start on September 25th 2022, join a parent or guardian or give the organizer a written permission from your parent or guardian to start.

Each participant pays either a 10 euro (if you are joining the central event in Antwerp) or 5 euro (if you are making your own route) registration fee. Only after receiving your registration fee your enrollment will be valid on the Refugee walk. Vluchtelingenwerk Vlaanderen vzw uses the registration fee for the organization costs, logistics, provision and medical framework for the participants. It also includes insurance covering the participants against physical injuries during the trip. We make an exception for asylum seekers and refugees: If they contact us or check that when they join a team of stappers, they can participate for free.

You can register individually or in team. You can add an unlimited amount of members to your team. Each team member pays 5 of 10 euros in subscription fees.

After subscribing, the registration fee can not be refunded.

Each participant acknowledges the risks associated with participating in a 10, 20 or 40 km journey. Each participant declares that it is his own responsibility to determine whether he is fit and healthy enough to participate in the Refugee walk.

A few weeks before the Refugee walk the participants and supporters will be informed of the mandatory and recommended items to take along on the tour.

The deadline to register is midnight on Sunday, September 18th. By then we must have received your registration fee.

Each participant will be automatically registered for the newsletter by e-mail from the Refugee walk. Each participant will receive updates and information about the Refugee walk at regular intervals. Unsubscribe at any time.
Donations

Each team is committed to collect at least 100 euro per participant for Vluchtelingenwerk Vlaanderen vzw. If a team fails to get that amount, the team is not allowed to start. In this case, we will transfer the amount you have earned to the next Refugee walk. The deadline for achieving the minimum amount 12u Friday the 23th of Septmber at noon.

Refugees and asylum seekers may collect money if they so wish. They are not obliged to do so.

The collected amounts must be paid trough the sponsor pages of the Refugee walk or on the Triodos account of Vluchtelingenwerk Vlaanderen: BE06 5230 8056 2922 (BIC: TRIOBEBB) with the words ‘Refugee walk + team name’.

Vluchtelingenwerk Vlaanderen is a member of the Association for Ethics in Fundraising (VEF). All fundraising activities for Vluchtelingenwerk Vlaanderen comply with the Code of Ethics of VEF.

If you make a donation of 40 euros on an annual basis, you are entitled to a tax certificate from Flanders Refugee Work. We will send it by post for April of the following year and use your address details. If you do not want a tax certificate, please let us know at giften@vluchtelingenwerk.be. The registration fee is not a gift and does not count toward the tax certificate.

In order to receive a tax certificate and thus have a tax benefit, your gift must be made personally by you, under your name and from your own personal bank account. Refugee work cannot issue a tax certificate for deposits representing the proceeds of collective fund collections.
