RouteYou 101: make your own Refugee Walk route
From 2020, you have the option within the Refugee Walk to work out a route with your team and to express solidarity with people on the run wherever you want to go. You choose your own departure location and make it your own.
You can choose to use known hiking areas and marked routes.Just leaving from your front door early in the morning and seeing where you end up is also always an option. Or you can map out and plan your route in advance. But how can you easily create your own route?
One way is to work with the platform RouteYou. This is the platform we work with for the central event of the Refugee Walk. You can find the central routes here as well as some cool inspirational walks from various partners.
So how do you make your own walking route? No worries, we got you!
1. Create an account
- Go to https://routeyou.com/ and select log in (upper right cornor). Once you have an account, you can save and share the created route. Click on log in and there you will find the page to create a new account. Do you already have one? Then it's just a matter of signing in.
2. Map out your route
-
Logged in? Then go to 'Plan a route'.
- Here you can indicate that you want to create a walk, which criteria are important to you and from where you want to start. RouteYou gives you then two options:
- From A to B: here you can enter your route step by step, starting from your starting location and then completing the route step by step. Here you have to specify exactly how you want to go.
- Round trip: here you indicate the departure and arrival location and RouteYou will map out a walk for you. You choose yourself how long the walk has to be and which direction you want to go and RouteYou will do the rest. You can then adjust the proposal yourself if you wish by dragging the dots to another point on the map. RouteYou then automatically links these points to the hiking nodes along this new location.
3. Save your route
