How can I collect money?
Fundraising a tough job? Not at all! Encourage friends, family members and colleagues to make a donation and you’ll hit the € 100 target in no time. As of this year, you can see how much money you have already collected as well as your team(members). Extra motivation to certainly collect more than your teammates!
1. Use your network
E-mail, Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, the carrier pigeon... Make your participation in the Refugee Walk as widely known as possible. Get people involved in your training, keep them informed about your fundraisings and make your motivation as personal as possible when you ask for a contribution.
Send an email to your family, friends, colleagues, sports club, hobby club... and ask them to support you. Tell why you are joining. And tell them that any amount, no matter how modest, helps. You can find more information about what Vluchtelingenwerk Vlaanderen does here.
And who knows, maybe you inspire them to join as well.
Always refer to your personal page on our website. And don’t forget the the hashtag #refugeewalk2022.
2. Go local!
Approach local traders: the baker, the butcher or local newspaper shop. Who knows, they might want to sponsor you. In exchange you can mention them on your personal page and possibly have their logo printed on your hiking shirt.
You can also always contact the local newspaper. They are always looking for local news. Approach them with your original fundraising campaign, an ambitious target amount or a strong personal story and who knows, you might become a local hero(ess).
Finally, it can be interesting to speak to your mayor. Municipal authorities often have a budget available for initiatives by residents.
3. Organise an action
Think of a fun promotion or event: a sports activity, a big spaghetti party, a quiz, a show, a board game evening, a second-hand sale, a breakfast or lunch at the office for which you ask for a contribution, ... The possibilities are endless.
Is it your birthday? Hooray! Then you might want friends and family to support your Refugee Walk and in this way give people on the run a warm welcome. Next year you will be showered with gifts again.
4. Throw your talents and assets into battle
Are you an unparalleled cake baker? Do you indulge yourself when you can mow the grass? Are you a walking pattern book? Carpentry? Babysitting? Wash windows? Haute cuisine? A photo shoot? A guided pub crawl? A hot air balloon ride? Throw your assets into battle in exchange for a contribution.
5. Collection box with a mission
Does a colleague at your work island swear very often? Do your children come home late more often than on time? Use the Refugee Walk to turn your annoyances into euros! Set up a collection box and have them deposit one dollar every time their bad habit rears its ugly head.
6. Tax benefit
Good to know, donations from 40 euros are tax deductible. This means that you will receive part of your support through your taxes the following year. For donations, this is currently 45% of the amount. This means that donating 40 euros is more interesting than 20 euros.
Be sure to tell your sponsors this, who knows, maybe it will convince some of them.
