About us
Globally, almost 80 million people are fleeing violence, war and persecution. They travel huge distances, often by foot, in search of a safe home.
During the Refugee Walk on October the 8th everywhere in Flanders people will be walking a symbolic route of 20 or 40 km and by doing so, raising money for people on the move. A recreational walk for us, a harsh and daily reality for people who are fleeing their country.
Each year we reach more and more people with the Refugee Walk. Over the past editions, we’ve grown from 700 participants in 2016 to 1.600 in 2022.
The route
The route? That’s up to you! This year you’ll have the opportunity to walk with us from the main starting point, map out your own route wherever you want to go. The central event will take place in Antwerp again this year.
In 2023 we will be organizing the 8th edition already. In the past we’ve visited Genk (2016 and 2017), Mechelen (2018), Leuven (2019 and 2021) and in 2022 we landed in Antwerp. Over the years the concept has changed and grown. In the first editions the assignment was clear: walk 40 km at the central event. But after 6 editions, you have a couple more options. You can walk 20 or 40 km from the central event or chose your own route, own distance and own location.
Just like previous editions, you have two options this year: walk with us from the central event in Antwerp (20 or 40 km) or create your own route in your own region of choice.
